Convention Report: Candidate for Pres-elect lays out agenda

It's a pretty safe bet, barring an alien attack, that SPJ's new president-in-waiting will be Hagit Limor on Saturday, when delegates will make it official.

Hagit, a TV reporter in Cincinnati, is running unopposed.

Addressing delegates on Friday, she still wanted to explain why she was worth a vote (even though she needs just one).

She introduced herself as SPJ's first multimedia president (starting next year). She also said she's dedicating her campaign and presidency to journalists who have lost their jobs.

Indeed, two essential angles for a new president to acknowledge.

But what remains unsolved is a concern I've been hearing lately. As SPJ continues to lose members by the hundreds, can the society survive - rebound - on the strength of freelancers and new-media types?

I only know this much: There are a lot of people tweeting, blogging, shooting video, texting, etc., during convention sessions.
