SPJ officially has a new president.
Kevin Smith addressed Saturday night's dinnergoers with a call to act as SPJ enters its second century.
Smith, who teaches at Fairmont State University in West Virginia, set a goal of adding 1,000 new members this year, to counter the 1,400 members that were lost in the past year. Read more »

The pinnacle was seeing a video tribute to Terry on Saturday night after outgoing President Dave Aeikens announced that SPJ was honoring him with a Wells Key.

Indianapolis has been a great walking-around city. There's plenty that's interesting and worthwhile within several blocks, such as the NCAA Hall of Champions, which had good interactive exhibits.

If you didn't already know, D.C. Pro member Austin Kiplinger has been an SPJ member longer than any other current member - 73 years, I believe. He was one of three people honored on Saturday as fellows of the society (the others were the late Nelson Poynter and the late Stanley E. Hubbard).
Kiplinger, the chairman of Kiplinger Washington Editors, said Marshall McCluhan's assertion that "the medium is the message" isn't true.

As we said goodbye to Ann Augherton on Friday after six years as Region 2 director, we welcomed Brian Eckert as an eager successor.
Brian had a great anecdote about the uncertainty of stepping into the position.
